Magic City Grille in Birmingham

First time having southern food for real and I really enjoyed the food and vibe. Nothing fancy but a place I'd visit often if I lived here.

My cornbread was hard and mac and cheese was to salty

The pork chops were nicely seared. The hash browns were crispy and tender. The scrambled eggs are OK. The biscuits were meh/so-so.

The food was FRESH AND DELICIOUS!!!

I've been here a few times for the buffet and its always delish. Today I ordered a burger and was totally disappointed.. a frozen Burger patty and frozen fries are not what I expected from a soul food restaurant. The burger was mediocre at best and the fries were blah... not their best..

Magic City is pretty good. It's not the best around, but it's central and it's good enough.

Traditional southern food. All you can eat if dinning in. Carry out available. Friendly quick service. Street parking. Many meat and side selections. Good desserts (blackberry and peach cobbler as well as banana pudding). Steady customers eating in and taking out. Hometown staple. Reasonably priced.

I'm reminded of neighborhood restaurants we used to have around downtown Birmingham 30 years ago. Good food in a relaxed atmosphere.

Good food, plus it's a buffet. There dessert is awesome. If I can remember it's called bread pudding. Delicious!

Great food! Their creamed corn and dressing was even better than my mama's! I can't wait to visit again.

It was my first time going to Magic City Grill and I really liked it. The food is great. I Wil definitely be returning with my family in the future

Food good need air condition very hot n place mac & cheese wasn't good collard greens to sweet cabbage to well done everything else waa good.temperature of food great. Salad & fruit ,veg, 🐟,chicken

Well look like the steam table is never connected so the only time you get hot food is when you see them pouring it in the pan. I love their salad bar. With desert you usually spend about 13 to $15. They also have one waitress with a nasty disposition she thanked you not worth her time unless she's gets a big tip. Some of the customers know exactly who she is. So a $5 tip and up look good to her. One day I went in there at 1:30 and they have practically clean off the steam table. They serve a lot of leftovers I mean a lot of leftovers. Certain desserts cost more.

This place is awesome!! Its small but the atmosphere is great and the food is fantastic!!!

It was my first time trying them and they get an F!!! The waitresses had NO customer service skills and their attitudes wrre awful. I'll never go back. Smh

I saw a roach crawling on the back of the seat opposite from me at the booth I was sitting at. Now I'm not above any critters cause once upon a time not long ago... ijs when you paying for somewhere to eat, there's an expectation you have as a customer. Not eating here again.

The food was just ok. It has been better. But we did go about 2:00 pm & they close at 3:00 pm. The person that waited on us do not smile. She looked as if her mind was somewhere else. The Cashier was very nice & friendly.

The locals swear by this place and it was extremely crowded, but it's definitely not my fav.The mashed potatoes, greens and Mac n cheese taste as if it was straight from a box. I'll check them out again on another day; we shall see.

Lunch with a friend, the food was great! My one issue after I paid for a to go buffet, you can have only have one meat and two vegetables, no dessert. While dining in ate all I wanted on the buffet and then to purchase one to go could only have a meat and two vegetables, same price, not good.

My family had breakfast there this morning. It was our first visit. The pancakes were light and fluffy! Serving size was generous. The server was very pleasant and attentive. Prices were reasonable. Will definitely be returning.

It was hot, and not in a good way. They needed to turn their a/c on. The chicken was good but the mashed potatoes were instant and the greens were canned.

Food was good price was a little high for what looked like leftovers from the day before... Friendly service...

The food is very good. My son who is a picky eater and lives "home cooked 'southern' food" ate everything. Which is usually not the case when he eats. Want a good home cooked meal, check out this place!

Let me tell you, I've been here twice during my travels and each time I've had a great time visiting here. The food here is just so good, and its buffet styled so I can go in for seconds and thirds. I highly recommend this place.

Visited this location while visiting Birmingham Al. The line cook lady is rude and nasty towards patrons. Will openly argue with you to avoid answering a question. Deserves 0 stars just for that.

Food is great.. Not a lot of seating.. Really think they should expand because food is delicious

Y'all don't My Granny but...I had some of the best Chicken and Dressing I've had in my life here today! They offer a buffet of Southern home cooking...think all the good stuff...cabbage(also a stand out) greens, peas, mac, fried chicken, liver and onions...you get the idea. Tried as much as I could and liked everything I tried. Service was friendly. I'll be back next time I'm in BHM.

Reminds of Sunday dinner at grandma's house.

The food at this place is really good. Don't be deceived by how the building looks ( needs remodeling). My big issue is they close at 3 p.m. everyday except Sunday. The kind of food they serve is better suited for dinner (not lunch). The people that work there are polite. They have a buffet or you can get it to go. You can get a meat and 2 sides to go for $7.99, buffet is $9.99.

Stopped in for a quick lunch. They had a buffet of fresh southern foods, so that was it. The chicken pot pie was the major surprise -- so darned good! The rest was what you might expect, good eats but nothing to rave about.. I didn't order off the menu, but they have one available. But, that pot pie, I'd go back just to have that again. And all you can eat for under $9 isn't bad anywhere!

I went on January 8, 2020 to pick up lunch to go. Chicken breast over cooked hard and stringy. Collard greens and macaroni sweetened with sugar. Food not good.

The food is as close to home as you can get without sitting at mama's table.

Yesterday was our first time we came to that excellent restaurant. But It is surely not the last time. We had a good time with the good service, with the excellent cuisine and wine and with the modest pay. We will absolutely return there in a short time.

The employee was personable and the portions were large. You got your money's worth!!! However, the taste was average. Oxtails were fatty and were cooked like neckbones. Also, I think that the greens were prepackaged, not fresh.
